All the Men I Met But Never Dates
What was your first experience with film and how did it influence your first project?
My first experience with film was watching Aladdin—and I was hooked. It wasn’t just the magic carpet or catchy songs, it was the feeling of being transported to a world that somehow felt both familiar and fantastical. Growing up in a culturally conservative home, I saw parts of myself reflected in Aladdin’s desire to be understood without giving everything away. That early connection to identity and belonging stuck with me—and years later, inspired me to tell personal stories like All the Men I Met But Never Dated. Film gave me permission to imagine a freer version of myself.
Who is (are) your favorite filmmakers?
My all-time favorite filmmakers are James Ivory and the late Ismail Merchant. Their work has this quiet magic—whimsical, deeply human, and full of longing. Their films made me want to fall in love with life itself. In the summer of 2022, I even traveled to Crema, Italy, just to feel a bit of that world for myself. And honestly, I did.
What are you working on that no one knows about?
Shhh! It’s a feature musical called “You Are My Only Secret!
Who would play you in a movie? What’s your go to movie snack? What’s the film title that best describes your life?
I would have my current film’s actor Ahmed Elden play me because that’s who he played in this short film All the Men: my go to movie snack is actually popcorn and Diet Coke.
The film title that best describes me is “The Little Mermaid” because I have my own world under the sea.
