What was your first experience with film and how did it influence your first project?
When I was 14, I wasn’t the best skateboarder of my crew. So, to make up for it, I began filming my friends’ tricks and making little edits of them. At first, the edits looked like montages of flipping and flying, but they soon evolved into “slice of life” short films. I became increasingly more interested in the moments that I found important—the ones that made me “me.” Film became a medium for me to understand the complexity of these moments, and it’s what I’ve continued to use it for ever since.
Who is (are) your favorite filmmakers?
Some of my favorite filmmakers are Krzysztof Kieślowski, Leos Carax, Lynne Ramsay, and Andrei Tarkovsky.
What are you working on that no one knows about?
Writing a feature inspired by Mike Brodie’s A Period of Juvenile Prosperity.
Who would play you in a movie? What’s your go to movie snack? What’s the film title that best describes your life?
Roberto Benigni because I like him and he makes me laugh.
