The Filmmaker Four: Kestrin Pantera

Kestrin Pantera is a writer/director the New York Times called “a force.”

Her new film, PRETTY PROBLEMS, World Premiered at SXSW 2022 to rave reviews and won the SXSW Audience Award. She was awarded Bay Area Filmmaker of the Year and the Grand Jury Prize for Best Picture at Sonoma International 2022.

Her last feature, MOTHER’S LITTLE HELPERS World Premiered at SXSW 2019 and released in 2020 with Gravitas Ventures. Lauded as a “wonderful, Big Chill-esque dramedy,” with “big screen chemistry from the ground up,” awards include Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Ensemble Performance and Best Actress.

Her first feature, LET’S RUIN IT WITH BABIES, was released theatrically and hailed by the LA Times as, “honest, convincing, and just plain adorable” and Marie Claire’s “must see.” .

Her film, PRETTY PROBLEMS, is part of BIFF 2022.

What was your first experience on a film set?

My grandfather gave me a video camera when I was 11. I immediately began making SNL parody commercials and bossing my friends around. Been doing it ever since.

Who is your favorite filmmaker?

Tossup between David Fincher and Amy Heckerling.

SPY SLUTS (working title)
